Happy Halloween and happy Day of the Dead. In the month of October, both of these holidays are celebrated on the same day but usually not celebrated together. Halloween is a traditional American holiday, while the day of the dead is celebrated in central and south America. Both are fun filled, so why not celebrate them both?
Halloween is for some people the most anticipated holiday of the year. It is filled with its own spooky novelties. Everything from costumes, scary movies, and candy. This holiday can be celebrated with large parties and events. In the past, kids would go out and collect candy from people throughout their neighborhood. Going trick or treating as it was called and it has slowed down due to safety concerns. There is still tons of candy to be had. With stores offering big deals and larger party size bags of candy for a cheap price. Halloween has lots to offer to families with haunted houses and theme parks having ghastly decor fit just for Halloween.
The day of the dead has a different tone. It is not as big in the US as it is in Central america. The day of the dead is a day to remember family and friends who have passed away. It has its festivals and gatherings, but it is to pay tribute to those who have died. Usually, people will make an alter, honoring their loved ones, having a meal and making a plate for the deceased. People try to make it a joyous occasion by having a small party while celebrating their fall’in friends and family. Like Halloween, it has it candy with sugar skulls and other treats. It’s a great time to honor those you have lost.
This October, don’t just make it about costumes and creepy things. Take some time to remember those who have passed away. It’s okay to include other cultural beliefs in your daily life. Keep an open mind and try to include something different in the month of October. Enjoy and have a safe and fun time.
