Rome wasn’t built in a day. It took centuries to make Rome even half of what it is today. I really don’t think they rushed the completion one of the world’s most famous cities. You don’t have bust your ass every day of the week to accomplish your goal. Take it easy and work smoothly towards your goal. There is no rush unless there is a demand. Even still your work isn’t worth your health. In the hood, there is a saying “It only takes five minutes before they light their blunts.” After you are dead and gone it takes no time for people to go back to what they want to do. If you die because of work-related stressors, it won’t take much time for your boss to find a new employee.
Don’t let anyone light a fire under your ass but yourself. There is a phase in the West-Indian community “just now.” They say that they will get something just now. And you might be waiting a while. They aren’t saying that they will get to a task right now, they are a little more honest than that. When they say just now they mean when the time is right and they have the motivation that will get to it. Pace yourself you don’t have to kill yourself to make your boss happy. There is nothing wrong to getting to something when you get to it. I’m not saying be lazy and never complete your work, I saying get your work done at a steady pace. Find a balance between tasks, consistency is the name of the game.

An employer would rather see an employee that comes to work every day. An employee who shows up to work every day and is relaxed but gets the job done in a timely manner beats out that fly-by-night gets too much done and doesn’t show up the next day. Take me for example, I worked at a couple of jobs in my life and I was always a valued employee. Not only was I like a cool-ass rock star that ever wanted to be around. I wasn’t greedy with the work. I left assignments for other people to do. After a while, I start giving people opportunities. Some people know that doing something at work makes time go smoother so they don’t mind the work. Some people come in like crackheads with a burst of energy ready to do the job of ten men. They end up being hated and gossiped about, next thing you know, they don’t come to work anymore.

Take your time, and work smoothly. No rush, we all know success loves speed. That doesn’t mean work yourself silly. Rush and zipping around may get the job done faster but if you work an 8-hour shift and get everything done within the first two hours then either you go home early (which means less hourly earned income) or you stand around for 6 hours looking stupid. The other employees will call you a kiss-ass and the boss won’t necessarily be happy because of so many reasons. So take it easy and remember the phrase that pays “just now.”
