Have you ever been so upset you can’t help but want to break stuff? The spirit of rage and the fight is so strong inside you; you are ready to go into murder mode and nothing and no one will stand in your way. Well, you might be suffering from blood lust. Be careful because it can get messy. Fast.

This post was named and adapted from a learned skill in the popular 90’s video game, Legacy of Kain. In this video game, when you activate the skill “blood lust” you move incredibly fast and can do more damage. Your character can unleash a barrage of fierce attacks on your enemy. This particular skill in the game Legacy of Kain transcends that game, especially when it is applied to real life.

When you are enraged and ready to fight it unleashes a hidden energy. You may have the capability to decimate any opponent that stands in your way. When you are charged up and ready to go, no one can stop you from delivering pain and chaos to anybody who displeases you.

Blood lust is real and it can be really dangerous. When you are blinded by rage and no one can stop you, you can hurt a lot of people. And the biggest person you may hurt is yourself. Being blinded by a sense of lust for carnage, mayhem, and destruction has a cost. Violence in real life is not a game. The consequences are unbelievably real and there is no restart button.
You can severely harm a family member, hurt a friend or stranger, and in the end, in the real world, the only person you are hurting is yourself. Being tempted by the spirit of vengeance and a lust for blood for anyone who opposes you is beautiful. But just like everything that is beautiful in this world, it can and will cost you. More time than not, embracing and acting out of blood lust costs people their freedom.

Violence outside of sport is unlawful. Life is not a game where you can toggle an ability and enable your personal desired brand of destruction. You really can’t go recklessly going around kicking ass and taking names without experiencing repercussions for your actions. The police are real, and if you mess around too much, they’re gonna get called. Because you want blood now, afterwards, you might end up in jail, looking at 15-24 years for a crime committed out of passionate rage.
Hurting people isn’t cool. Most of the time people who are filled with blood lust, the people they hurt the most are the ones closest to them. Your parents, spouse, brothers and sisters, even children (it’s especially horrid when children are hurt). When you are in the heat of rage you can do some real irreparable damage to anyone around you.

The key to avoiding being overtaken by blood lust is to try and stay calm. Remember what you have to lose and what a engaging in a bout of rage can take from you. Hurting people because you are upset is no excuse. We are all civilized people living in a civilized world. Hurting people because you’re caught up in your emotions can ruin everything you got going for you now.
If you feel you are about to enter murder mode, please be an adult. Remove yourself from the situation. Go out for a walk, smoke a blunt, or try listening to some music to try to get the spirit of craving the blood, death, and pain of your enemies to dissipate. Just try to calm. Making the effort to deescalate a mounting negative situation because you are feeling blood lust could possibly save you a lot of grief later on in life.

If your want to break stuff, cool. Just make sure it’s your own stuff. Try and calm down and relax when the call for blood and vengeance against those who wrong you is high. Remain cool tempered and think things through before you act. When you enter full on blood lust mode you may hurt a few people. But keep in mind, the one you will likely hurt the most is yourself.
Take care and Happy gaming.
