“Hi, hey you! want some food? it’s free”. That’s how i was approached. “Free food you say?” was how i answered. The food was great, the food was organic non GMO and all natural. The stuff would cost a fortune at the store. He keep his word and didn’t charge me a thing. I left left with two big bags of groceries. How’d this happen? Over stocked food that was distributed for donation.
A lot of grocery stores will give there overstock food to local charities for distribution. This food isn’t bad they just have more then they know what to do with. So a store will give it to a forth party for donation so it wont go to waste. Unfortunately it still might go to waste. Because of the stigmatization of people who are willing to receive and take free food home.
Some people believe that if you take donated food that you must be poor are going threw a hard time. But that is not always have to be the case. If you want to save a little bit of money or want to eat healthier then you should consider going to a food pantry. There shouldn’t be shame in saving money and eating better. It would be great if food set aside for the community (not just the poor) doesn’t go to waste.
There are food pantries all over the country. Please don’t be too prideful to accept free goods. It’s a shame when food go’s to waste. Help food pantries help you and other’s by attending. It really is a win/win situation. So please show and eat good today.
