I was a slouch, I thought nothing of living my life hunched over. Hell, I thought it was cool going around with a relaxed posture. My back never really hurt me from living a life of improper posture. I never thought anything of it until someone told me something that changed the way I looked at my posture.

I was riding with a buddy of mine and he said ” You know why nobody likes you?” Flabbergasted, I wanted to know why people really had an issue with me so I replied “No.” Well, he said “It’s your posture, you’re a slouch! No one is ever going to take you seriously if you’re hunched over all the time. They gonna think you grimy and up to no good.” Without thinking twice I defended my poor posture and said “I am a shifty guy and I want to let people know I am a real ninja.” He told me that he read a book about proper etiquette and that people with improper posture were seen as criminals and low lives. When I got inside his word resounded with me. I decided to start standing upright and exercise proper posture.

I made the decision to walk tall and keep my shoulders back with my chin up. I instantly noticed that I wasn’t that short and that a lot of people were way shorter than me. After a day or two of practicing proper posture that people showed me more respect and polite society started giving me genuine respect. I felt bigger in a good way. My muscle structure is more prominent and I feel that much more handsome when I stand up straight. Changing my posture changed how people treated me.

I don’t think I will go back to being a slouch. Living a hunched life is over for me. I plan on maintaining a respectable posture, standing tall, and accepting the fact at least looking like an upright, decent human being. Having a proper posture is working for me. I recommend having a proper posture to anyone or everyone. Have a great day and continue walking tall.
